When someone filed a complaint against you, your license could be put in danger if not defended by a nurse attorney.

On or about December 23, 2017, while employed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) of a hospital in Edinburg, the RN failed to properly utilize the bar code medication administration system prior to administering 1.25mg of Zofran to the three-week-old infant a patient. As a result, she administered Zofran 1.25mg to a patient, without a physician’s order. Her conduct was likely to injure the patient in that the administration of Zofran without a valid physician’s order could result in the patient suffering from adverse reactions.

The Texas Board of Nursing is the one that has full jurisdiction on cases involving RNs and LVNs. Therefore, the RN was summoned by the Texas Board of Nursing to explain her side.

During the hearing, the RN states that she scanned the bar code but is not sure whether there was light and sound after she scanned. She states she notified the physician on duty of his med error and the patient was placed on observation.

The RN failed to hire a nurse attorney to help her with her case. Because of this, the Texas Board of Nursing suspended and disciplined the RN.

Do not fret if you find yourself in a similar situation the same as that of the RN mentioned above. All you need to do is to find the right nurse attorney who can help you in the case.
