Nursing assessment skills are one of the nurse’ most valuable assets. This is the main reason why whenever someone filed a complaint against you involving negligence, your license could be put in danger if not defended by a nurse attorney.

On or about July 31, 2008, while employed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse Austin, the LVN provided her employer with an altered American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card to reflect competency in CPR. She altered the issue date from “12/2005″ (the last time she completed a CPR course) to “12/2008”, to indicate completion of CPR course in December 2008.

Furthermore, the LVN altered the renewal date from “12/2007″ to “12/2008″. Her conduct deceived her employer and may have placed patients at risk of injury from inappropriate and/or non-efficacious CPR interventions.

The Texas Board of Nursing is the one who has full jurisdiction on cases involving RNs and LVNs. Therefore, the LVN was summoned by the Texas Board of Nursing to explain her side.

During the hearing, the LVN states that from the beginning of the application process for the hospital she was employed at, she made them fully aware that she did not have a current CPR card and that she feels that out of fear from maybe getting terminated her husband procured an old card from her wallet, changed the dates and faxed it to the hospital without her knowledge.

Additionally, the LVN states whether this is what happened or not she realizes that she has a responsibility because she is the one who owned the card.

However, the LVN failed to hire a nurse attorney to help her with her case. Because of this, the Texas Board of Nursing suspended and disciplined the LVN.
