Every person who wants to become a professional LVN or RN in the state of Texas needs to go through several processes. This is the main reason why you should be careful when doing your job, or else, complaints or charges might be filed against you. Without the help of a nurse attorney, you might get suspended by the Texas Board of Nursing.

At the time of the initial incident, an RN was employed as a Registered Nurse at a hospital in McKinney, Texas, and had been in that position for ten (10) months.

It was on or about September 26, 2018, while employed as a Registered Nurse, and on assignment, the RN received an emergent message, through the online system, from the parent of the patient and failed to verbally notify the physician immediately, and conduct a telephonic comprehensive assessment of the patient’s suicide risk by gathering information about the patient’s intent, plan, support system and past medical/psychiatric history, per policy. The RN’s conduct exposed the patient to the risk of harm from clinical care decisions based upon incomplete assessment information.

And on or about October 23, 2018, the RN received an emergent message, through the online system from the parent of the patient, and failed to verbally notify the physician immediately, and conduct a telephonic comprehensive assessment of the patient’s suicide risk by gathering information about the patient’s intent, plan, support system and past medical/psychiatric history, per policy. The RN’s conduct exposed the patient to the risk of harm from clinical care decisions based upon incomplete assessment information.

As a response to the incidents, the RN states that she followed the procedure by routing the messages for the physician to take action, that the patient was seen by that physician, and there were no untoward events that happened.

The Texas Board of Nursing gave her the right to legal counsel. However, there was a failure on the RN’s part to find the right nurse attorney to handle her case. This had caused and led to unfavorable outcome for her nursing license.
