One of the most common disciplinary issues among RNs in Dallas is medical error or negligence. If you are an RN under investigation by the Texas Board of Nursing, a Dallas nurse attorney is the one who will defend your nurse license.
Additionally, if the Texas Board of Nursing is attempting to discipline your nurse license, a nurse attorney can defend you and your nurse license.
Unfortunately, an RN from Dallas failed to do this which resulted in disciplinary action.
On or about June 27, 2018, while tasked to assist in the surgery of a patient, the RN accidentally cut the aforementioned patient’s upper left thigh while removing the surgical drape after the surgeon had left the Operating Room.
Subsequently, she cleaned the wound, and applied skin glue without a physician order, and failed to report it to the surgeon.
Because of the incident, the Texas Board of Nursing summoned the RN to further investigate the case. During the hearing, the RN states that as she was preparing the patient to be moved to the stretcher after the surgery, she discovered that she had accidentally nicked the external surface of the patient’s thigh with scissors during the undraping.
She explains that the cut was superficial. She indicates that after she cleaned the area, she applied skin glue, and asked the circulator to make a note on the operative record. She explains that the physician didn’t return to the OR, and she intended to find him and inform him what had happened, but unintentionally forgot.
However, the Texas Board of Nursing disciplined her license because they think that her conduct was likely to injure the patient from lack of appropriate nursing and medical care.
The Texas Board of Nursing has full jurisdiction over all cases that may affect the LVN license. The strictness of the Board also ensures that nurses will only commit to the duties they are assigned to in order to guarantee accurate and excellent performance in all hospitals throughout the state of Texas.
